By John Blake, CNN
"Bush's polarizing presidency showed people how bad things could turn "if religion was in charge," he said. The Internet showed atheists that they weren't alone, as they sought out and encouraged one another."
"Those who ask why people need God are also raising their public profile in other ways. Richard Dawkins, author of "The God Delusion," and Sam Harris, author of "The End of Faith," have best-selling books questioning the need for religion."

After reading the before mentioned books, I can say that I wish cons read more, especially the Good Book.

What I don't understand is why Atheists are so bothered by religion. Who cares? I don't try to convert you, so why are they always trying to convert everyone else?
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, that atheists don't respect other people's right to religion. Atheists feel the need to ridicle at every turn. It is one thing not to believe. You guys have that right and I don't want to take that away from you. Go for it. But in turn, leave others alone that may choose to believe. Quit calling them stupid, or crazy. Don't ridicule.
Why does it bug you so much that some people believe in God? So what?
The way that I see it, if you atheists are just as moral and don't lie, cheat, steal, or commit murder, then there should be no problem. If both believers and non believers have the same set of moral principles then the core is the same, so what difference does it make to you?
Sorry. I don't get it.
"What I don't understand is why Atheists are so bothered by religion. Who cares? "
ReplyDeleteWho cares? Most of our recent problems stem from religion (9/11, W invading Iraq, Iran). Plus you religious people are always telling everyone what to do. No abortion, no anything to do with sex, no drugs, no dieing with dignity, on and on. And now we are seeing easier and easier to acquire, WMDs, and who but Gods chosen want to use those.
I really don't know a single Christian or Jew that wants to see WMD's used. (BTW---"God's chosen" refers to Jews. Israel has never used nukes)
ReplyDeleteIt was you Progressives that brought us Prohibition. You guys also brought us Eugenics. As for abortion...You have it. Are you saying that you want it up to the 8th or 9th month? At that late in the term that is a viable human life, and that becomes murder in my book. For people that claim to be so moral how can you want that? Sex? C'mon, RG...No one is legislating sex!
Drugs? Are you saying that Atheists are in favor of drugs? That isn't true. Your reasoning doesn't hold up. All you have to do is refer back to any Communist country (no religion) and see if they were less restrictive on these issues. No. Not at all. Religion has nothing to do with it!
You guys want to ban everything. There is a long list of things that Progressives want to ban.
Sorry Case, your beloved Reagen aka RayGun began the war on drugs, because he couldn't start a war with the commies. Why do cons always need a war of some kind? I think it helps the con masses feel safer, when in actuality it makes us less safe because we have to borrow so much money.
ReplyDeleteGive it up Case, let people be free. Quit telling gay people they can't marry. Quit telling people they can't die with dignity. Quit trying to tell people they can't have abortions. Quit telling others they have to pay for your kids schooling through property taxes.
The US religious people are not Gods chosen ones, as they don't listen to his words. His words say to help the poor, and the crazy right wing bible thumping cons don't want to do that. Do you think that God would condone or condemn the government helping the poor? Hmmmm....
With all the crazy versus in the bible, and the bible being the infallible word of God, how can religion not be a danger? A danger to mankind.
ReplyDeleteIt has been around for thousands of years. Why is it suddenly a "threat to mankind"? That is rediculous!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny. You resent the government taking taxes for schools, yet you think that the government should take our money to help the poor. Shouldn't education be up there for you RG? I mean, a good education should be a bridge to a more sucessful life. A way out of poverty. Your logic is quite fluid; flowing in whatever direction agrees with your already formed opinions.
The "war on drugs" was a reaction to the growing problem of CRACK in the inner cities. Crack became an epidemic. Crime was on the increase in the areas where crack was prevalent. Babies were being born addicted. That was primarily in the inner cities--among the poorest of our citizens. Do you think that crack was a help to the poor? Should we legalize crack, RG?
You never commented, but figured that you wouldn't. What about Communist conutries? Aside from abortion, what freedoms do they enjoy that we don't? Do they allow gay marriage? How about drug use? There is no religion in communist countries. So without religion, shouldn't they be free to do those things?
You are trying to make your logic fit your beliefs, RG and it doesn't work that way.
"Why is it suddenly a "threat to mankind"?"
ReplyDeleteNukes. WMDs. The ability of men to to create the fire and apocalypse all the good books predict.
"Your logic is quite fluid; flowing in whatever direction agrees with your already formed opinions. "
Yes as cons logic is. Cons logic: I want 10 kids, and everyone has to pay for their education. But everyone should take care of themselves.
How about this logic Case. A couple can have 2 kids, and after that they pay for any more kids entire cost. Schools cost averages around 12k per year per kid.
How about you cons, giving young girls and boys abstinence only sex education, and dissuading birth control, making abortion nearly impossible to get, pay for those kids? I bet if you had to pay for those kids, your policies would take a left turn as hard as Stassells right turn.
How the Hell are abortions "nearly impossible" to get? Not true. They are, in fact easier than ever to get.
ReplyDeleteYou still haven't addressed my question about Communist countries, past and present. No God. No religion allowed. Why weren't they allowed to use drugs, or have gay marriage? The truth is, religion has NOTHING to do with it.
I think that you are wrong about conservatives. Not all conservatives are religious. How are you coming up with this shit?
The sad truth is this: in spite of the availabilty of condoms, low or no cost birth control, and the availibility of abortion, and government sponsored sex ed, the teen pregnancy
rate continues to be a problem in this country. It is prevelant in religious families as well as non religious families. The problem is more complex than you make it out to be.
We are MORE liberal now than ever in our history, yet the problems have grown. How does that correlate to a religion problem in your world? We have taken religion out of everything. Even Christmas isn't allowed to be called Christmas anymore---yet the problems still mount. I think your argument is quite dated and invalid.
You want problems? Try unleashing a whole new crop of Heroin, Meth or Crack addicts on society---if you should legalize those drugs. Believe me---religion has nothing to do with it!
"The truth is, religion has NOTHING to do with it. "
ReplyDeleteI don't know why cons are so against drugs, maybe the crap about your body is a temple for God, etc.
Why did Obama say the Feds will not pursue pot enforcement anymore? Why didn't W do the same? It constantly shows up on the cons side, telling others what to do (no drugs), and the ones yelling the loudest are usually the most religious. I think the cons should leave peoples temples alone. Crime would go way down. Why not take a stroll through Mexico, and see what problems high priced drugs enable? Or watch "The Wire".
What Obama is doing is purely an ecomnomic move. He is not in favor of legalization. It is interesting to note that a student brought the idea up to Obama in one of his appearances and Obama shot the idea down immediately.
ReplyDeleteAs for why didn't Bush? Why didn't Clinton? Carter? Johnson? Kennedy? Religious reasons? See...The argument doesn't hold up.
"As for why didn't Bush? Why didn't Clinton? Carter? Johnson? Kennedy? Religious reasons? See...The argument doesn't hold up. "
ReplyDeleteYes Case, it's the same reason the Dems all have to claim they believe in God. Because half or more of our dopey population demands that leaders have to believe in the big Guy, or they won't vote for them. And funny ironic, Carter is the one Dem, that really did believe, as is apparent by his good works after leaving office.
I never said that I support Palin or Bachman. Not everything is black and white. Those are not the only choices.
ReplyDeleteNo, I think that lying to get what you want--at any cost---is worse than believing in God. Not faking RG, lying. You condemn 1 person for lying, then you excuse another. Like I said before, your standards are quite fluid depending on whos side you are on. It's called integrity. I think that people that we elect to public office and pay with our tax dollars should have some.
"No, I think that lying to get what you want--at any cost---"
ReplyDeleteWhy are all your leaders, Palin, Bachman, w, Olielly, Stassell, Cheney, Coulter, considered pathological liers? I have read books on their lies, two of them from Franken.
Comon Case, if your con leaders actually believed in the big Guy upstairs, why aren't they behaving like Mother Theresea? If you ever read the good book, you would know she was dead on target. But alas, cons only read what they think will enrich them in this life.
Franken! What a joke! And he is a REAL pillar of stabiltiy and integrity! No thanks. We will never agree on this one. You had to use Franken, didn't you? You lost me on that one!
ReplyDeleteWe can't all be Mother Theresa. That is unrealistic. Even the Apostles had jobs.
Franken, yes Case, a pillar of documentation and research. Used Harvard undergrads to fact check all he said and foot notes to document all they found. Comon Case, reality sucks, we all know it. Just face it. Put on a brave face.
ReplyDeleteDon't get any big ideas
ReplyDeleteThey're not gonna happen
You paint your smile
And fill the holes
There'll be something missing
Just when you found it
It's gone
Just when you feel it
You don't
It's gone forever
She stands stark naked
And she beckons you to bed

ReplyDeleteOh Pleeeze....And Franken wouldn't possibly slant anything to support his own views, right?
ReplyDeleteC'mon RG. We will never agree on this.
You blindly believe EVERYTHING that your side says. You never check to see how the allegations that they make are rebutted. Everything on the conservative side is a lie in your eyes. See what I mean? When you don't look into both sides you miss so much. NO ONE is 100% right 100% of the time. You know this in your own life, why is it different in politics?
How about this one, RG.
ReplyDeleteThe Pew Research center finds trust in the government to solve this countries problems is at an all time historical low. Only 22% of people (you are among that number)trust this government and administration to fix the problems facing us today. They call it distrust, discontent, and anger toward the government. 65% are angry with Congress, and 57% with the national news organizations! Only 52% say the government is too big and 58% say that it is interfering too much in local and state issues. It is noted that these changes have happened since Obama took office.
Still think he will get a 2nd term?
That's not ALL Obama lied about!
ReplyDeleteThe reason that you come up with those things in searches is that your side likes to point fingers and name call and the conservatives are not likely to do that. That is a left tactic that we have covered before. Also, no one watches her show so no one cares.
